Eng Hwa Yap

Prof. Eng Hwa Yap serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor at Wawasan Open University, Malaysia, where he leads strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing Open and Distance Learning and various other educational modalities. His diverse responsibilities encompass academic leadership, faculty development, technology integration, and student services, all geared toward ensuring the delivery of high-quality and inclusive education. Committed to cultivating a dynamic learning environment, Professor Yap collaborates closely with teams and stakeholders to maintain academic standards, drive innovation, and forge valuable partnerships. Together, they work towards shaping a future where education remains accessible, engaging, and aligned with the evolving needs of learners.

Previously, Professor Yap held the role of Founding Dean at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, where he led the strategic development of the Schools of Intelligent Manufacturing Ecosystem, Robotics, and CHIPS at the Taicang Campus. His leadership was instrumental in establishing sustainable, globally-focused strategies for these schools to excel in education, research, and industry engagement within a forward-looking learning ecosystem. Over the course of his career, Professor Yap has also held academic leadership positions at prestigious institutions such as the University of Technology Sydney, the University of Nottingham Malaysia, and University College London's former Australian campus.

In the realm of research, Professor Yap's work centers on curated multidisciplinary and mixed approaches of inquiry, with a primary focus on understanding and addressing complex problems related to technology, environmental sustainability, and future energy systems. His research methods often revolve around systems thinking, allowing him to investigate emerging and contemporary issues in technologies and their interaction with society, the environment, economics, and policy.

Since 2020, Professor Yap has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney's TD School, where he continues to contribute his expertise to the academic community.

Embracing Disruptive Technology: A Path to Inclusive Higher Education

Dadong Wang

Bio sketch.

Prof. Wang is an internationally recognized scholar with extensive contributions in the areas of image analysis, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, focusing on the development of automated image analysis solutions for scientific and industrial applications. His main research interests include Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing not elsewhere classified, Computer Vision.

Prof. Wang received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Beijing University of Science and Technology (BUST) in 1990, followed by his Master's degree in Engineering in 1993 and PhD in 1997 from BUST, and his PhD in Engineering from the University of Wollongong in 2002. Prof. Wang joined the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) of Australia in 2005, after working as a software engineer and systems engineer for two large multinational companies, Logica Australia and ALSTOM Australia, developing large-scale intelligent systems for monitoring and control. Currently Prof. Wang is leading a research team at CSIRO and his research team has won several awards in the field.

Unleashing the Power of AI: Revolutionising Industries and Driving Innovation

Han-Chieh Chao

Bio sketch.

Prof. Han-Chieh Chao received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, in 1989 and 1993, respectively. He is currently a professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Dong Hwa University, where he also serves as president. He is also with the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Ilan University, Taiwan. He was the Director of the Computer Center for Ministry of Education Taiwan from September 2008 to July 2010. His research interests include IPv6, Cross-Layer Design, Cloud Computing, IoT, and 5G Mobile Networks. He has authored or co-authored 4 books and has published about 400 refereed professional research papers. He has completed more than 150 MSEE thesis students and 11 Ph.D. students. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the Institution of Engineering and Technology Networks, the Journal of Internet Technology, the International Journal of Internet Protocol Technology, and the International Journal of Ad Hoc and Ubiquitous Computing. He is a Fellow of IET (IEE) and a Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society. Prof. Chao has been ranked as the top 10 Computer Scientists in Taiwan for 2020 by Guide2Research. Due to Prof. Chao's contribution of suburban ICT education, he has been awarded the US President's Lifetime Achievement Award and International Albert Schweitzer Foundation Human Contribution Award in 2016, and South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation, SEARCC in 2017.

Jiann-Liang Chen

Bio sketch.

Prof. Jiann-Liang Chen received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 1989. Since August 2015, he has served as a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Currently, he holds the position of Convener of the Computer Science Division at NSTC, as well as the projects of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, and other entities. Previously, Prof. Chen was the Dean of the College Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering at NTUST.

His research interests include Computer Network, Wireless Network Technology and Applications, and Software Engineering. Recently, he focused on two main areas: firstly, fundamental research in "Next Generation Mobile Networks," such as open network architectures for 5G/B5G/6G, novel approaches to network operation and maintenance, Edge Computing, Software-Defined Networking, and the Digital Transformation of practical domains; secondly, the practical and theoretical development of new forms of "Cybersecurity," which integrates Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) with a primary and security defense leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI).
